About

The Roadie Show is a video podcast about being and how to be a roadie. This site will include tutorials and other resources to help one learn about sound and lighting as it applies to live music. More on this later.

After a rather expensive stay in filmschool I joined the ranks of the grownups by getting a real photography gig at QVC. Shooting Joan Rivers forcefeeding costume jewelery down middle-america’s throat may sound glamorous but it’s actually quite boring. Fed up with the ‘corporate creative’ lifestyle, I walked away from photography and back into the arms of music. Since early ‘03 I have been playing bass with Marc Lomax in clubs and festivals around Philly while working as a monitor engineer/stagehand/spotlight op/FOH engineer in major music venues all over the northeast. I’ve been lucky enough to work with an odd assortment of big name acts like Jethro Tull, Ani DiFranco, Norah Jones, The Platters, Dee Snyder, Michael McDonald, Heart, Vince Gill, Natalie Cole, The Commitments, Trisha Yearwood, Kenny Loggins, Jill Sobule, Billy Bragg, Lilly Tomlin, Tower of Power, Average White Band, Kris Kristofferson, Victor Wooten, John Tesh, 38 Special, Blue Oyster Cult, Vanilla Fudge, Asia, Peter Frampton, Kathy Griffin, Steven Wright, Pat Benetar…

My life started the day I became a musician. I sat down at a drumkit and jammed with some friends one day in High School. I was hooked immediately. I have been in the music biz ever since. I’ve been in a few bands, but I stopped ‘cuz i needed to make REAL money. Professionally, I work as a sound reinforcement engineer. In other words, I’m the guy at the concert who sets up and runs the sound system. I got into it because I love music and enjoy the creation and performance of music. It’s the best job ever! I get to hang out with all the famous musicians, plus thier band members and crew, and I see the show for free. I went to school in Orlando to learn sound reinforcement, then I ran away and joined the circus. I traveled with Ringling Bros. for 5 years mixing the band. It was awesome! So many gorgeous girls from around the world and the experience of mixing in all the big arenas made for a great chapter in my life.

I love music. I always have. I played trombone for years. I play bass still. I’ve worked sound at a craptastic club. Don’t get me wrong, I liked doing sound there. It was a challenging to make bands sound good where working mics were dropping like reality show contestants.

Anyway, now I’m a big geek an I do web design/development. I like technology and computers. To the consternation of hardcore 2″ tape lovers everywhere, I like the way audio production and technology are coming together. I agree that analog sounds better, but soon we will hardly be able to hear the difference (on 98% of all sound systems anyway) and you can’t beat the convenience of digital production. Oh, and I like podcasting, that’s why I work with POLARiTV.com.
